Ira Cross Jr. Elementary is proud to have a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS). The National Elementary Honor Society was originally created in 2008 and is now the nation’s premier student recognition organization for elementary students. The two primary purposes of NEHS are to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence while also demonstrating responsibility in their lives and engage those students in leadership and development activities.
There are several requirements in order to receive a nomination for entry into NEHS.
- Current 4th or 5th Grade Student
- Academic Average of 85 or greater in all classes
- Demonstrates exemplary leadership, character, scholarship, and behavior inside and outside of the classroom
Ira Cross Jr. Elementary welcomes a new induction class into NEHS each Fall and Spring of every school year. All nominated students are required to complete an application and submit a teacher evaluation. All applications are thoroughly reviewed by a selection committee in order to determine the induction class for that semester.
Active members participate in service projects throughout the school year as well as participate and attend community service events. Student members are also required to attend weekly meetings held after school.
If you have any questions or would like more information about National Elementary Honor Society please feel free to contact one of your school counselors.
