  • Early College seniors gathered to watch the sun rise on their senior year
    By: Early College High School
Early College High School seniors shared memories, breakfast, and camaraderie watching the sun rise on their final year of high school.
Emotions ran high as senior AVID teachers, who have been with the same group of students since freshman year, expressed pride in their students’ diligence in working through struggles and success together.
The seniors gathered outside Early College High School before dawn Sept. 9 to watch the sun rise.
“One thing I won’t ever forget is when the AVID teachers gave their speech and everyone was crying together,” said senior Janessa Bartz.
A tradition set by the first graduating class of Early College High School, senior sunrise represents the beginning of the end to a challenging journey of high school and associate's degree completion.
“My favorite part of the morning was hanging out with my friends and getting to chill on the grass with them. One memory I will not forget is taking in the rays of the warm sun after waking up on a cold morning,” said senior Diavanni DeJesus.
“Waking up was difficult but remembering that it is my senior year and I only get memories like these once in a lifetime motivated me to get up and show out. I loved it,” he said.
The passage to graduation will commence with the senior sunset just before the end of the school year.

Early College High School teacher Tyler Cochran submitted information and photos for this story.
