Dr. Russell Porterfield
Dr. Russell Porterfield has served as an educator for 18 years. He began his career as a math teacher and coach. He also had the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Principal and Associate Principal for Copperas Cove High School during his time with CCISD. During the 2014 – 2015 school year he became the Director for College and Career Readiness for CCISD and oversaw the CTE programming for the district along with advanced academics. After over a decade with Copperas Cove ISD, he became the Principal of KISD Career Center, in 2018. The Career Center services Killeen’s four comprehensive high schools, Killeen, Harker Heights, Shoemaker and Ellison, and Pathways Academic Campus. Dr. Porterfield is passionate about providing opportunities for students to graduate ready for what’s next in life. Dr. Porterfield grew up working in the construction industry with his dad and believes there is dignity and value in all work. He is excited to be a part of offering over 30 different programs of study and 55 industry certifications to students in Killeen ISD.
He is a Central Texas native, spending much of his childhood growing up just outside of Killeen and graduating from Florence High School. He received his undergraduate at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and graduate degree from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. He attained his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Dr. Porterfield’s goal at the KISD Career Center is to support students and staff in ensuring students are graduating prepared and competitive for their future. Whether students go straight into the workforce with certifications earned at the KISD Career Center or go onto some type of post-secondary training we want them to be prepared academically, with the needed technical skills, and the much-needed soft skills preparing them to be successful young adults.
