Students with allergies that require medication at school or the omission of certain food products while at school require a doctor’s note indicating exact steps school personnel should take to ensure the student is not exposed to an allergen.
Allergies Requiring the Use of Epi-Pens
The administration of epinephrine can be delegated to an unlicensed staff member. Personnel are taught the signs to watch for to identify an anaphylactic reaction.
It is not necessary for a nurse to accompany a student with an epi-pen on a field trip.
