Mrs. Penny Batts
I have always been connected to the military in some way. As a child most of my elementary education was in Europe (France, Germany and Italy). In between duty stations my father was stationed at Fort Hood, during those times I attended Marlboro Elementary, Haynes Elementary and Meadows Elementary. I attended middle school at Nolan Junior High School. I am a high school graduate of Killeen High School of 1972. I furthered my education by attending Central Texas College and received an Associate’s Degree. I attended the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1980. I received my Master’s Degree and Principal’s Certification from Tarleton State University in 1993.
Teaching has always been my passion. I worked as an instructional assistant for MHMR in their Infant Intervention Program from 1974-1975. Once I became a certified teacher I was hired with KISD as a special education teacher from 1980-1993. My first year I taught special education students, ages 13-21. I worked as a TMR and Partial Self-Contained teacher of 6-7 year olds for the next twelve years. I served as Assistant Principal from 1993-1998. I became principal at Trimmier Elementary in 1999.
I am married and have two children. I feel blessed to have my family in Killeen. My son is stationed at Fort Hood and is in the medical administrative field. My daughter works in KISD as a Campus Instructional Specialist at a middle school. I have three grandchildren here as well. My two granddaughters attend the University of Texas. One is majoring in Math and the other in Nursing. My grandson attends middle school in KISD. I also have an adorable cat name Bella.
I am very family oriented. My personal and school family are important to me. I love to shop, travel, watch movies, read and decorate.
