Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Maria Jackson
As we start the 2019-2020 school year, I will be embarking on my 22nd year in Killeen ISD. I have served as a Teacher, a Coach and an AVID Coordinator over the years. I am married to Siris Washington Jr. and we have two beautiful children who attend schools in KISD. Simone and Siris III are truly a blessing to us and we are so proud of them.
I was born in Fort Sills, Oklahoma to a loving military family that taught me the values of serving others before myself. I am the youngest of 5 children. My parents instilled in me a passion to help people and to treat them with respect. I went to school in Killeen from kindergarten through high school and I am a proud graduated of C.E. Ellison High School. I graduated from University of Central Texas in 1997 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Government Summa Cum Laude. I knew after graduation that I wanted to serve my community that had given me so much.
I finished the Region 12 Alternative Teaching Program and I became a teacher. I believe that every child has a right to learn and to grow as individuals. I began my teaching career at Nolan Middle School and it was such a great place to start. I soon moved to Liberty Hill Middle School where I would spend the next 14 years teaching and coaching basketball and track. I completed my Masters of Education in Leadership and Administration from TUI University in 2008 and my Masters of Education in School Counseling in 2011 from the University of West Alabama. I completed my School Counseling internship while at Liberty Hill Middle School under the leadership of two amazing counselors. In 2013, I became a school counselor at Manor Middle School. It was the culmination of a dream realized.
As a School Counselor, I am here as an advocate for our students and to assist our students in learning how to make better choices, developing effective study skills and habits, increasing their academic achievement, promoting positive peer relationships as well as helping them become productive members of our global society. I believe that a comprehensive school counseling and guidance program is critical in the daily functions of a school. One main goal of a comprehensive school counseling and guidance program is to promote and increase student achievement. It is my mission, as a School Counselor, to work as a partner with parents, students and staff members to achieve this goal.
