Degrees and Certifications:
Principal Tanya Dockery
Dear Timber Ridge Families,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.
Our campus is focused on increasing student achievement. In order to help our students be successful, we plan our lessons using the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model (GRR). The GRR provides students with modeling and direct teaching, then follows with guided practice where teachers and students practice new learning together. Students are then given an opportunity to practice 21st Century workforce skills such as Accountable Talk as they collaborate with peers to learn more. Finally, students are given an opportunity to show what they know independently through rigorous and challenging assessment.
This year our campus will use the GRR Model to focus on implementing a Balanced Literacy approach to reading and writing. Our students will be engaged in reading and writing across all content areas. I encourage you to read and write with your child daily. Our students have access to the Internet-based MyOn program at home as well as in school. Please contact your child's teacher to get your child's log-in information.
We are here for kids. Students are at the heart of every decision we make at Timber Ridge. One of our goals this year is to build connections and relationships among students, staff, families, and community members. We cannot do our job without you!
This year our campus will begin implementing Restorative Discipline Practices. Our goal is to build relationships and decrease discipline referrals. We will be focusing on modeling peaceful conflict resolution skills and helping kids recognize how to repair the harm if/when a mistake is made. Please support us in our work!
This is my second year as principal at Timber Ridge ES. I am a veteran, wife, and mom of four. My husband retired after serving twenty years in the US Army. As an Army family, we have had the opportunity to live in many areas including Germany, Virginia, and New York. Because of our mobile lifestyle, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of positions such as a teacher, childcare center director, and parenting educator. All of these opportunities have enhanced my work at Timber Ridge ES. Being a principal has been my dream since I was six-years-old. I love reading and learning more about school leadership. I also love to share my learning with others. As a result, I have presented at conferences at the local and national levels including the National Principals Conference.

We are so excited to have you as a part of the Timber Ridge Family. We look forward to an exciting year where your child will reach his/her maximum potential. Please contact me if I can ever be of assistance.
